Kyanite, also known as disthene is an aluminium silicate formed during the metamorphosis of crystalline slates. Kyanite is a relatively new stone to magic and healing. The mineral did not receive its name until late in the 18th century, and is thought to originate from the word kyanos, a collective term for blue minerals including azurite and lapis lazuli.
